Auto Glass Terminology

If you have any questions about any of the terms here, please don't hesitate to call us at 770-442-8642.

Antenna

Some windshields or other windows have an antenna embedded in the glass. If you're not certain about your part, call us to find out more.

Backglass

The rear window of cars and trucks. Note whether your backglass has an embedded defroster, rear wiper, antenna, or brake light.

Bronze

A brownish color of window tinting.

Heated

A common feature of a backglass, but may also be applicable to windshields as well.

Privacy Glass

A common feature of some mini-vans and sport utilities. Privacy glass is considerably darker from the outside than the front door windows and windshield. Privacy glass may also come in a choice of colors; blue, green, bronze or gray.

Quarter Glass

A side window behind the doors. Be sure to note which side of the vehicle the glass is on, and how many doors the vehicle has.

Shaded

Many windshields have a dark band of shading along the top of the glass. A windshield can have shading that is the same or different color than the rest of the tint on the window. A windshield that is shaded is always tinted too.

Tinted

Most automobile windows are tinted, and the color can vary. Since the early 1980s when air conditioning became common in vehicles, nearly all vehicles have come equipped with tinted glass. If you are uncertain of the tint color of your glass, hold a white piece of paper up against an open window. Common colors of factory tint are blue, green, bronze, and grey.

Vent Glass

A vent glass is located in a front or rear door. A vent window may or may not be moveable. A piece of glass which opens, but is not in a door is probably a quarter glass. If you are uncertain, please call us.
